Early registration deadline Sept. 1!
Join
friends and colleagues at the California Invasive Plant Council'™s
14th Annual Symposium on the campus of Chico State University! The
Symposium is the state's biggest gathering of wildland weed workers,
and gives members an unparalleled opportunity to exchange insights and
approaches. This year's invited papers will focus on the theme of
prevention, with sessions on protocols and practices for limiting weed
movement; inventory and prediction approaches aimed at stopping spread;
and partnerships for early detection and rapid response. Adding to the
mix will be five contributed paper sessions, a poster session, working
group meetings, four field trips, and the unveiling of the revised weed
list!. 2005

Hotels: Do not delay making your hotel reservation. The
symposium weekend is also Parents' Weekend at Chico State. Hotels will
begin releasing our rooms to Chico State parents as early as Sept. 1. The
link to "2005 Symposium information" has a list of hotels where we have
reserved blocks of rooms. Please note that the Budget Inn's phone
number was listed incorrectly; it should be 530-342-9472.
Fieldtrips: Each
year we venture into the local environs to visit weed treatment sites
and the native habitat local groups are protecting. In 2005,
we will visit remnant native grassland and riparian forest along the
Sacramento River, Arundo treatment along Stony Creek, volunteer
efforts in the amazing Bidwell Park, and maybe even hike along an old flume! Fieldtrips will be
Saturday, Oct. 8. See the 2005
Preliminary Program for a full description. NOTE: The Sutter Buttes fieldtrip is now full (8/30/05).
NEW IN 2005! - Cal-IPC is proud to announce the new Pre-Symposium Wildland Weed Field Course.
This one-day workshop, Wednesday Oct. 5, will benefit newcomers and
experienced weed workers alike by combining a comprehensive review of
field techniques with the latest in cutting-edge technology. Registration deadline extended to Sept. 30, if space is available.
Sponsorship: Each year
organizations and agencies make donations as Symposium sponsors to
support Cal-IPC's work. Depending on sponsorship level, sponsors receive space in the exhibit hall,
complementary registrations, mention in the program packet, and other
benefits. The poster/exhibitor session will encourage the 300
attendees to visit sponsor exhibits of interest. Exhibit space is
limited, and early arrangements are recommended. For levels and
benefits, see Sponsorship Information.
DPR Continuing Education Credit: We
have applied to DPR for 2 hours of Laws and Regulations credit, 12
hours of General Credit for paper sessions, and 4 hours of credit for
field trips. We have also applied for 8 hours of General Credit for the
field course.
