The Newsletter of the Silicon Valley Campaign for John Kerry
People's Advocate Joins the Team
Who is Vice-Presidential candidate Senator John Edwards?
The press says "Edwards polishes Kerry's image" and "Running mate showcases his persuasiveness," or as Tad Devine, a Kerry strategist points out, "He's been a lot of people's advocate...now he's John Kerry's advocate".
John Edwards was born and raised in the Carolinas. He worked alongside his father at the textile mills where the senior Edwards worked for 36 years. John was the first in his family to go to college. He finally ended up in law school at UNC-Chapel Hill where he met and married Elizabeth.
During the next 20 years, Edwards worked effectively as a plaintiff's trial lawyer. He used his folksy speaking style to help juries arrive at multimillion-dollar verdicts for his clients.
In 1998 John ran for and won a Senate seat, where he has become a persuasive advocate for healthcare, middle-class tax cuts and education. John has played an important role as a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence.
Because Senator Edwards represents the world's largest army installation complex as well as the Marine Antiterrorism Task Force (both headquartered in North Carolina), he has taken a leadership role fighting bioterrorism, safeguarding nuclear power plants and improving the lives of military personnel.
We're all eager for John Edwards' next big winning verdict: Kerry-Edwards in the November elections.
The math formula of the week:
John Edwards = 6 years nat'l & internat'l experience
Senate/Vice President
George W Bush = 5 years local experience
Governor/President

Latest Battleground State Survey Results:
A recent survey of voters indicates the undecideds are poised to break AWAY from President Bush and move toward John Kerry. The survey factored in both a two-way and a three-way race. Summarizing the findings, pollster Tony Fabrizio noted: "Clearly, if these undecided voters were leaning any harder against the door of the Kerry camp, they would crash right through it...Any advertising that does not either sharply and aggressively define Kerry or get the truth out about the "growing" economy appears to be a waste of resources in...an environment in which the President's image is polarized and generally fixed."
Legends of The Democratic Donkey
The first time the donkey was used in a political cartoon to represent the Democratic Party was under President Andrew Jackson in 1837.
