FilaDesign.com is my official design site. My name is Carina Merrick, and I have worked in web design and authoring since 1999. I received my BA degree in Studio Art from Stanford University in 1996 and began working full-time in web design at Myers Internet. I later became the Senior UI/Web Designer at a commercial offshoot of ImproveNet, working mosting on the design and layout of complicated forms, tables, and dynamically generated content. When I moved into the residential aspect of ImproveNet, I specialized in user interface design, redesigning and rewriting HTML to better display dynamic, database-driven content from existing ASP code. In 2003, I became the webmaster for the Captive Wild Animal Protection Coalition. I have continued working with the Coalition in addition to offering web design services to individuals, small businesses, and non-profit organizations. In addition to the contract work show in my portfolio, I have done contract design and graphic work for Yahoo! Inc and Thirdspace, a startup since acquired by Alcatel.
FilaDesign.com is named after my dog, Judge, whose photo you see on the left. Although Judge was adopted from the Humane Society and his past is shrouded in mystery, he is an absolute dead ringer for a Brazilian Mastiff, or as they are more commonly known, the Fila Brasileiro. Although a rare breed, Judge is nearly identical to the breed standard, except for not having an aggressive bone in his big, loveable body.
